The Norfolk corporate games organised by Active Norfolk, a Fit for Business (FFB) member, was held at the UEA SportsPark on Friday 11th September 2009, and saw 22 companies battling it out to be crowned ‘Winner’!  Much like your school sports day, with an adult twist, the day is about enhancing people’s networking ability, reliving and introducing sport and good old-fashioned fun!
Another FFB member: NWES (Norfolk & Waveney Enterprise Services) took part in this prestigious sporting challenge, selecting a team of their finest, highly trained athletes to carry the NWES flag into battle. Champions from all over the East of England participated in the event including Hertfordshire County Council, Living Sport, and various Borough Councils.
In the morning session, clients participated in a ‘sports day’ facilitated by the FFB staff. Events included a 100m race, long jump, turbo javelin, space hopper race and a tug of war. There were some impressive performances due to a healthy dose of competitive spirit and sense of fun!

Continued Professional Development & Focus Discussion Groups

August 18 2009 - posted in fit for business

CPD – Continuing Personal or Professional Development - refers to a commitment to structured skills enhancement and personal or professional enrichment.
As part of Creating Excellence’s commitment to CPD, I was asked to attend a skills developing workshop to learn how to run ‘Focus Discussion Groups’.

The course was run by The Eastern Development Centre and supported by Niace, (National Institute of Adult Continuing Education) in Ipswich and quite an unusually pleasant drive up the A12 saw me arriving at the IP-City Centre Building.

I was one of the first to arrive, and it’s always awkward deciding what table you should join, so I opted for a seat adjacent to a gentleman and his dog, who I later…

“Get FIT4LIFE with Fit for Business”

August 10 2009 - posted in fit for business

The Government’s National Campaign ‘Change4Life’ is urging us to get our kids to ‘Eat Well, Move More’ and ultimately ‘Live Longer’.

But it isn’t just our kids that need to be ensuring they are having a balanced, healthy way of life; we as adults, parents, siblings, grandparents and even as children ourselves – should be living the values too.  What better way is there for our children to learn, other than by example?

Maintaining a healthy way of life comes down to, as I see it, a simple formula:

Officially Fit For Business with the Essex Boot Camp

August 06 2009 - posted in fit for business

When my colleague from across the office Lauren (FFB workplace champion co-ordinator) suggested going to ‘Boot Camp’ I thought she had gone slightly crazy! She didn’t strike me as the kind of girl that revelled in getting sweaty and muddy. However, when she explained to me that she wanted to go purely to experience a session, as her clients were already engaging in the camps, I then understood why she had suggested this rather mad notion!

Given this, I thought, ‘why not give it a go and practice what we preach’. I took a look at the Essex Bootcamp website and it looked quite hardcore but I’m a ‘gymoholic’ so I hoped I would survive…

The Fit For Business (FFB) team have been working with businesses across the Eastern Region to promote the idea of The Big Lunch.
Healthy Eating and Mental Wellbeing make up two of the five core components of the FFB Programme – so linking in with the ‘Big Lunch’ concept has been great to get our business placed ‘Champions’ to promote and run ‘Big Lunches’ within their own workplace!

Despite the event being on a Sunday, businesses have still been keen to hold their own ‘Big Lunch’ during the week running up to the big day! [Continue Reading]

Fit For Business ‘Network Event’ by Sheila Warnes

April 29 2009 - posted in fit for business

Feeling shattered, bit depressed as Champions all tired, just really not sure if we have the energy to continue another year as a champion, even though we had just received our accreditation following a successful first year was the way I came to the Networking Event at Chelmsford.

It was an inspirational experience, time to relax, chat, listen and learn and to come away feeling encouraged and regenerated. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and I came back, yes the problems are the same, I have no more hours in the day or evening, but I have set up and run within the month a full day heath awareness event…
