I was inspired by the London 2012 Open Weekend!

July 26 2010 This weekend I was lucky enough to celebrate two years to the London 2012 Olympics with a trip round what must be Great Britain’s largest building site... Stratford! The event had been organised as part of the London 2012 Open Weekend.

With the fresh theme of ‘challenge yourself’, over 900 events took place across the UK as part of the Cultural Olympiad. Organisations set public challenges at each of their events, creating an opportunity for everyone to set a new personal best by trying something new or taking an existing interest to the next level.

My challenge was photography (it’s up to you to decide whether or not I succeeded!). Throughout the day we were set a challenge of capturing three topics in photo:

• The big build
• Gold, silver, bronze
• Going for gold in the velodrome

I only entered one picture as the creative juices just weren’t flowing! Nevertheless the whole event really brought to life what to expect in two years time. It was so easy to imagine what the site will look like with the various rivers running through, the ‘Henman Hill’ style big screen, the branding and of course the crowds. It made me think more about the imminent launch of the London 2012 Game Makers volunteer programme and what I would like to be doing when the Olympics and Paralympics are here. What can you see yourself doing? It’s been my aim for the past 4 years to learn French, and now I am setting myself that target for London 2012 so whatever role I do take I can enjoy the Games with many more people.

And as for my photo... I took this picture inside the velodrome. It seemed quite amusing to me that they have only put in one so far! A bit boring you may think, but I imagined myself sitting there in two years time watching Victoria Pendleton and Sir Chris Hoy!

Oh, and no! I didn't win the competition!
