As part of this year’s Sport Relief campaign, CBBC have commissioned a new version of ‘We Are The Champions’ - the children’s entertainment show that ran for 23 years through the 70s and 80s and 90s and was last on TV in 1995.
The original programme involved sports stars and school children completing obstacle courses and pushing themselves to their physical limits to be crowned Champions! Now, 15 years later the BBC are bringing the show back in association with Sport Relief and Comic Relief 2010.
The show will star 12 sport personalities as celebrity coaches, coaching their teams by drawing on their competition experience in order to outplay the opposition and push their team to victory.
The games – three in the sports arena and two in the pool - will not just test the teams’ physical skills and stamina, they’ll also push their strategic ability and capacity to work together.
Viewers at home will see twelve teams from schools battling it out in the initial heats. The final features the three top-scoring teams in a throw-down to be crowned the We Are The Champions, champions.
The show is a blast from the past but will have a very contemporary ambition and, crucially, is looking forward to the Sport Relief night 2010, showing the children of the UK that they too can get involved in sport and can go the extra mile for a good cause.
There will also be an on-line guide on the CBBC website showing schools how they could run their own We Are The Champions event for Sport Relief.
Creating Excellence are proud to announce that Inspirational Speaker Danny Crates is going to be one of the 12 Celebrity Sports coaches! We’re getting our ‘Team Danny’ Sports Relief Tee-Shirts at the ready!
