Sporting Champions

Delivered on behalf of Sport England in partnership with the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, Sporting Champions brings world-class athletes face-to-face with young people to inspire and motivated them to participate in sport.

21 current and retired elite athletes have been recruited based on their wealth of experience and enthusiasm for sport as well as their ability to work with young people with the aspiration of raising participation in sport.

The scheme is aligned to the Sport Unlimited programme, which forms part of the Government’s PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP). The scheme offers selected CSPs (County Sport Partnerships) the ability to tap into a series of visits to support their delivery and increase the likelihood of growing the participation base, retaining young people through to week 10 of the programme and successfully transition into sustainable club sport.
